WOTSO has deepened its relationship with domestic violence support group DV Safe Phone and is quietly celebrating the news that more than 1,000 phones have been donated to the charity through WOTSO sites around Australia.
Based on the Sunshine Coast at Mooloolaba, DV Safe Phone signed a Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) with WOTSO to use its Sippy Downs site in case of emergency, just two weeks before Cyclone Alfred hit southeast Queensland.
Fortunately, there was no need to enact the DRP this time around, but @Nikki Firmin, Head of Community and Corporate Partnerships at DV Safe Phone, says it’s great to have a backup plan.
“It means the world to us as a grass roots charity to have a backup plan to ensure our mission, vision and impact is supported should something happen,” she says.
“If we cannot access our Sunshine Coast HQ, WOTSO has generously stepped up as our disaster recovery site, so we can continue our vital work supporting domestic violence (DV) victims across Australia.
“This is the latest in a long history of WOTSO supporting us. It has been an incredible partner since 2022, providing over 1,000 phones from its communities, helping DV victims stay connected and safe.”
A big thanks to WOTSO members and the local communities for donating their old phones and allowing WOTSO to support DV Safe Phone. Used phones can be dropped off at all WOTSO sites throughout Australia to repurposed and donated by DV Safe Phones.
