What a great day! More than 100 WOTSO staff, members, family, and friends came together at North Head in Sydney on Sunday to walk, run, and have fun, raising more than $4,000 for The Kids’ Cancer Project.
WOTSO has so far raised $23,500 through the 2025 Better Challenge, an initiative of The Kids’ Cancer Project which encourages participants to walk, run or simply move 90km over the 30 days of September, attracting sponsorship and raising money.
But there’s still work to do. CEO Jessie Glew said the WOTSO team is highly motivated to keep fundraising through the last week of September to smash its target of $25,000.
She said WOTSO staff and members have supported The Kids’ Cancer Project since 2016, raising more than $240,000 through different initiatives including the Better Challenge.
The Kids’ Cancer Project was founded 32 years by Col Reynolds to support vital scientific research into better treatments for children with cancer.
CEO Owen Finegan says the organisation has now invested more than $75 million in childhood cancer research.
This funding has contributed to a significant increase in the survival rates of children who are diagnosed with cancer, he said.
“What we want to be able to do is ensure kids with cancer have a better quality life, and that they not only survive but thrive,” Finegan told the crowd.
“We’re excited to be able to invest in bold innovative science that is going to help us future-proof childhood cancer research and support the next generation of leaders in that field.”
