AI is so hot right now and Ricky Sevta and the crew from Deep Space are onto something big – an AI-powered construction management platform for mid-sized commercial builders.
It’s powered by a growing team of 15 who work remotely until they need to gather and collaborate face to face.
Which is where WOTSO enters the picture, as it does for so many startups, an increasing number of which are staffed by people working remotely.
“They say it takes a village to raise a startup and we’ve found ours,” says Deep Space co-founder and CEO Ricky Sevta.
“In the early stages, everything feels like it’s constantly shifting…the roadmap, the priorities, the emotions, the endless problem-solving.
“Some days you’re energised, and other days you’re just searching for that one tiny win that keeps you going.
“For us, WOTSO has become one of those steady anchor points.
“It’s flexible, it’s welcoming, and it gives our small but mighty team the room to think, build, reset, and just breathe when the chaos hits full volume.”
He says Melbourne has become the natural hub for Deep Space.
“That’s where the talent density has been. It’s allowed us to have a space that feels like a home away from home.”
Ricky is based in New Zealand, his co-founder lives in Adelaide, and Deep Space has clients in both countries.
“It suits our model and the flexibility really works for us.”
As Deep Space evolves, the business is transitioning to a hybrid model where staff work both remotely and at WOTSO.
“We’ve spent countless hours on video calls, building a rhythm as a remote-first team,” says Ricky.
“Moving into a more hybrid way of working is a massive shift for us, and in the best possible way.
“Being able to come together in person has given us more clarity, more momentum, and more humanity.”
He singled out one of Melbourne’s Space Leaders Bella Sedley for special praise.
“Bella is one of those rare people who just gets it. Whether someone’s battling a headache and she turns up with paracetamol, or we’re scrambling for a last-minute meeting room, she makes things happen.”
Looking ahead, Deep Space has ambitious goals.
“We’re very proud of the product we have built and the goal is to help as many mid-sized builders as we can across the world,” says Ricky.
“It’s been fun – you’ve just got to have fun along the way and WOTSO’s been part of it.”
