In a nutshell, tell us about Ebats and what you do.
Ebats is an accounting practice that specialises in assisting businesses with better accounting software & systems, Tax compliance and tax planning. We also carry out audits for small to medium not-for-profits organisations like sporting clubs, schools, P & C’s and churches, to name a few.
Ebats is an abbreviation for E-business, Accounting, Taxation, and Solutions. As a firm, we embrace the use of cloud software and apps to complete our work.
Our business motto is ‘Better Business Accounting’.
What advice do you have for other small to medium business owners?
Know what you’re good at! Outsource what you are not good at. Wasting time on things you have yet to gain expertise in is money lost when you should be growing your business turnover. When you have the time, you can always educate yourself if you want to take back some of the outsourcing work.
Over the years, how has Ebats expanded and grown its operations?
Ebats is a new business that commenced on the 1st November, 2022. Ebats took up office space in WOTSO using the open desk area. By December, it became obvious that an office would be more suitable, so I moved into one within the WOTSO complex.
Ebats has benefited from 18 years of practice as an independent accountant. Ebats, therefore, is set up with a good client base. However, with the end of individual tax returns in sight, we are looking to grow our business and audit client base.
As a business owner, what is a notable challenge you have faced? How did you overcome it?
Finding a suitable and well-priced location was the first challenge. WOTSO provided the best option for a business that was doing a restart as an independent accountant and tax agent.
The second challenge was establishing all the admin systems and marketing via a website, Facebook, and LinkedIn while trying to maintain cash flow. Thankfully one of the businesses I connected with in the WOTSO building was Echo Virtual Assistant – Melissa Rawles, who has built my website and assisted in admin and some marketing.
What made your decision to choose WOTSO? As a business owner, how has WOTSO helped your daily processes?
Best decision I have made in business to date. The building in a central location makes it easy for clients to access my service. The friendly reception in the foyer makes my clients feel welcome, and the aesthetics of the building make it a good experience for me as a business owner and my clients.
WOTSO offers a fantastic environment for networking. With such a diverse range of organisations, it makes for great conversations. The general hive of activity inspires you to work productively, and you become part of a family that can support each other.
Finally, what exciting things can we expect from Ebats in 2023?
In 2023, I am looking to expand my business client base and my not-for-profit audit clients to generate enough turnover to employ at least one accountant and increase my human resources. Exciting things to come!
