Coworking market leader WOTSO is just weeks away from launching its first custom CookSpace at North Strathfield in Sydney’s inner-west.
CEO Jessie Glew said the new flexspace features 10 brand new fully equipped commercial kitchens that can be rented by the hour, day or month and will open in January.
“It’s a simple and affordable solution designed for food truck operators, retail food startups, caterers, and potentially restaurants who want to test local demand,” said Glew.
“The benefit is they don’t have the added cost of running a front of house, all they’ve got to do is bring in their food and cooking equipment.”
She said all water, gas, electricity and cleaning costs are included in the leasing rates.
“In the morning it could be used by someone preparing for market and in the afternoon it might be a restaurant preparing for Uber East delivery runs.”
Glew said building the kitchens from scratch has been more complex than fitting out coworking space and there was a steep learning curve to understand what tenants would want.
“To make sure we got it right, we spoke with several chefs who advised us on what we needed to have in these kitchens to ensure they could push out a range of food and meet demand,” she said.
Among their recommendations was having a kitchen that could be used for filming by content creators. We acted on their advice, so that’s available too.”
Glew said WOTSO has been “overwhelmed” with enquiries since announcing the concept and is now taking bookings.
