In a pickle? Play some ball. In what may be a world first, leading coworking operator WOTSO is now managing two pickleball courts in the same building as its Pyrmont flexible workspace for just $20 an hour.
The opportunity to create PickleSpace came when the previous tenant moved on and WOTSO, which has 40 coworking locations in Australia and New Zealand, embraced the chance to do something a little out of the ordinary.
WOTSO’s Regional Manager Matilda Eder says pickleball is considered Australia’s fastest-growing sport and tournament-grade courts such as Pyrmont are in short supply.
“So we’ve decided to give it a go and see where it takes us,” she says. “We’ve had an encouraging start with tons of interest from Pyrmont members and the local community.
“It’s also a perfect space for corporate events. We can package it up, arrange the catering, meeting rooms for workshops and of course the courts.”
For standard hire, Eder says the market-leading $20 an hour charge also includes paddles, balls and access to an adjacent social area with plenty of comfortable seating.
“Most people want to be playing on weekends or before or after work and because the building has 24 hour security we’re able to offer courts at any time people want to play.”
