WOTSO, the home of Australian small and micro businesses, has collaborated with the NSW Government to open two of its popular online Skill Swap education sessions to the public in October as part of NSW Small Business Month 2026.
Skill Swap is a peer-led learning format hosted by WOTSO members and industry practitioners designed to support small and micro businesses by sharing real-world skills, knowledge and tools in a practical, accessible way. All Skill Swap sessions are free, open to all WOTSO members, and interactive.
First up is digital marketing expert and WOTSO Robina member Tina Hay, Founder of Puzzle Media, who is presenting on ‘Mastering The Basics of Meta Ads’ at 11am Tuesday, 13 October. The presentation will run for 40 minutes followed by Q&A. Register here.
Tina’s presentation will cover key aspects of advertising on Instagram and Facebook, which she says is one of the most effective ways for small businesses to generate brand awareness and new business.
However, to be successful on the platforms, Tina says it’s crucial for business owners to define their goals and objectives, understand the customer journey and have a clear message.
Preparation is key and businesses must be ready to respond to the interest created.
“Every enquiry that comes through, you’ve paid for that,” she says.
“You need to quickly assess whether you can you help them, are they the right fit for your business, are you the right fit for them and, if so, what does that process look like?”
Tina says it’s also important to have strong creative. “Whether working with an agency or doing it yourself, that has to come from really understanding the benefits that people get and why they need what you’re selling.”
Later in the month at 11am on Tuesday, 27 October, WOTSO North Sydney member Mark Apter, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer of Roomix, will host another can’t-miss Skill Swap session based around the theme: ‘Running Your Business on AI’. Register here.
