The team at WOTSO (and its members) like nothing better than supporting a worthy cause so they dedicated the month of July to ‘giving back’ to communities across its network of 30+ flexspaces in Australia and New Zealand.
Activities included preparing winter warmer care packs for community support groups, fundraising for charities and showing some love to local animal shelters by collecting and donating blankets, food, towels and toys.
It was a big success in bringing people together and often a lot of fun.
A great example is WOTSO Sunshine Coast, where staff and members staged a Pyjama Day to raise money and awareness for The Pyjama Project, which supports children in foster care.
The Pyjama Project was a logical choice because two foster dads work out of the Sippy Downs site: Alain Meyer, Projects and Resources Manager at WOTSO, and member Mike Wall, who runs The Social Planners.
“It really hit home for a couple of people here, and we thought it would work really well in the space,” said space leader Eloise Hibbert.
“Mike gave a beautiful speech and took us through his journey, explaining how many kids are in foster care.
“We also hit our fundraising goal of $1000, and then something amazing happened: one of our members had a video call with her CEO, Damian Bridge from Oncore Services, while dressed in her pyjamas.
“After explaining the cause and spreading awareness with her team, Damian was so moved that he donated an additional $1000, doubling our impact! It was an inspiring month all round.”
Clare Simmmons, Head of People at WOTSO, said community activity has strengthened WOTSO’s company culture, which can be challenging with WOTSO sites spread over such a large area – from Perth to Auckland.
“It’s about community, it’s about collaboration, it’s about working together to achieve a better outcome. You’re stronger together. That’s the WOTSO culture.”
